80% more air flow with static pressure blower

The San Ace B97 blower delivers the best cooling performance in the industry for DC blowers in this frame size. It is available in 12 or 24 volt operation and has life expectancy of over 4 years continuous operation, and a fan failure alarm available as standard. With devices becoming more densely packaged, high static pressure cooling requirements are an ever increasing must for thermal engineers. Axial fans do not commonly provide the static pressure performance required due to their fundamental design. The advantage of the Sanyo Denki blower product range is that it has as many as 30 to 80 blades, far exceeding the three to thirteen blades found in axial fans. The extra blades allow a blower to gain a bigger static pressure than an axial fan.

The large static pressure makes blowers suitable for cooling devices that have high packaging densities and strong back pressure resistance. Devices such as servers, power supplies, storage devices and communication products can all benefit from this new product. Request a free brochure from EAO ...

Angle grinder may have sparked Ridleyton fire

Fire fighters believe an angle grinder being used near a petrol tank caused a fire that gutted a car repair workshop at Ridleyton in Adelaide's western suburbs today. The fire started just after 3:00pm at an LPG conversion workshop on Hythe Road. Part of the workshop's roof collapsed and up to five cars were destroyed, resulting in more than $500,000 damage.

Hythe Road was closed and neighbouring residents were evacuated but no homes were damaged and people have been allowed to return. The Fire Services district officer, Les Wood, says the nature of the business made it dangerous for firefighters. "With vehicles and this type of workshop there's all sorts of materials that give off quite toxic fumes," he said.
"That's why we have to use self contained breathing apparatus."

Angle grinder for metal welding applications

METABO has released a compact angle grinder for finishing welded seams, preparing for welds, and metal sanding and cutting applications. The W8-125 angle grinder includes the company’s cooling technology with repositioned brushes for unrestricted airflow. According to the manufacturer, a fan pulls 35% more air through the tool than standard cooling technologies, keeping it cool during operation.

The tool also has an eight amp motor with 800W of power, 1.1m/kg of torque and a no-load speed of 10,000RPM.
The motor and other components are protected with double lipped labyrinth sealed bearings, a winding protection grid and epoxy coated windings. By keeping out dust and debris, the company claims motor life can be extended up to five times that of competitive models. The grinder weighs 2.4kg and has a secure ‘racket’ grip and dual grip zones for handling. An anti-vibration side handle absorbs up to 60% of the vibration and provides balance.

How to Identify Prehistoric Stone Age Tools

Identify the type of stone located at your "site." Prehistoric humans used fine-grained or non-crystalline stone (for example, flint, quartz, shale, obsidian, et cetera) that easily flakes when percussed to make some tools. Flaking stone by hitting one stone (the percussor or hammerstone) against another (the core), produced flakes of stone, and continued flaking created serrated edges for cutting.

Search for local stone or large local raw material sources (for example, rocky outcrops or river beds) within a several mile range of your "site" as prehistoric humans tended to use readily available stone to manufacture tools. Evidence of manufacturing may be at the source site and not your own. If the "tool" at your site is not made of local stone, then you likely have a true artifact. The archaeological record and modern anthropological studies suggest that hard-to-find stone materials and/or tools were traded between prehistoric peoples just as modern humans trade goods.
